... and so it begins

It's been awhile in between posts.  It's not that I haven't done much cakes or cookies, but just that in between baking and decorating, there's family. 

There's also the few weeks that I hem hawed around, trying to decide about having my blog re-designed.  Well, I finally took the plunge.  Here is the new blog, designed and installed by Smitten Blog Designs.

My Week

Last week was one of those weeks that was completely and utterly mad.  I was up at dawn and did not go to bed until close to midnight.  The thing was, even though I was exhausted, I cherished working during the quiet hours before the kids woke up, and the peace when everyone had gone to bed.  It was just me, my workbench, and all the sugary goodness in front of me.

Smurfs Garden Cookies

I love it when a client comes to me with an unusual theme and is receptive to ideas.  I made Gina's baby shower cookies months ago, and recently, these Smurf garden cookies for her son's first birthday.  It took a good part of two days to make the fruits and vegetables from sugarpaste, bake the cookies and put everything together but it was worth all the time and effort.  I was thrilled to bits when I stood back and looked at these cookies. 

"Just wanted to say thanks again for the amazing smurfy cookies you made for Luca's 1st birthday party.  They were a big hit and tasted delicious.  I have attached a photo from the day of the table-somehow I managed to lose the piece of paper you had written for me with the order they were to go in so not in the original order unfortunately!"

Matching Pairs

It's lovely when clients come back to me and tell me they have a new addition to the family.  This naming day cake was for Lincoln,

and this, made a couple of years ago, was for his big sister, Violet.

Teddy bear baby shower cupcakes

This is one of my most popular designs.  I've lost track of how many teddy bears and blanket cupcakes I've made.  They are perfect for baby showers, christenings, naming days or birthdays.

Baby Shower Cookies

Baby shower cookies mounted on stick.  The baby's face was based on the baby shower invitation.

Owl Cookies

Owl-shaped vanilla bean sugar cookies.  Decorative details and colours were based on the invitation by Hipp.

Cooper's and Amelia's Cakes

This was the cake and cupcakes I made for Cooper two years ago, for his first birthday.

And now, he is three...

and has a little sister named Amelia!

Teddies, ribbons and dots

These teddy bear cupcakes are, by far, the most popular design I've done.  I have made them for countless baby showers, christenings, naming days and first birthdays.  I suppose there will always be that part of us that associates teddy bears with childhood.
